Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy: The winning captain of the five-match Test series between India and England starting on June 20 will be awarded the Pataudi medal, which will keep the name of this royal family alive in the cricket rivalry between these two countries. The Pataudi family has had a deep connection with cricket in both countries. The England and Wales Cricket Board had earlier decided to rename the Pataudi Trophy as the Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.
It was to be formally announced during the World Test Championship final at Lord's last week but was postponed in view of the horrific Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad. Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar along with some other people from the cricket world had also criticized the renaming of the trophy. It is learned that Sachin Tendulkar himself contacted the ECB and said that the name Pataudi should remain a part of India-England cricket. ICC chairman Jay Shah also played a role in this.
A BCCI source said, 'When the ECB decided to change the name of this trophy, Tendulkar contacted them and said that the name Pataudi should remain a part of the India-England rivalry. Jai Shah was also involved in this discussion. The ECB has agreed to the request and decided to give the Pataudi medal to the winning captain.
