Shubman Gill created history by scoring five centuries in a single calendar year: Indian captain Shubman Gill is showing excellent form in Test cricket. Shubman completed his 10th Test century by taking three runs off the fifth ball of Khary Pierre in the 130th over of India's first innings. This is Shubman Gill's fifth Test century in 12 innings as captain. Only Alastair Cook (9 innings) and Sunil Gavaskar (10 innings) have scored as many centuries as captain in fewer innings than Shubman. Shubman scored all five Test centuries this year. He is the second Indian to score five Test centuries as captain in a calendar year. Before Shubman, only Virat Kohli had achieved this feat twice.

Shubman Gill has now become the Indian batsman with the most centuries in the World Test Championship (WTC). Shubman surpassed Rohit Sharma, who had scored nine centuries in the WTC. Shubman Gill has so far scored 2826 runs in 71 innings in the WTC at an average of 43.47, including 10 centuries. Shubman has also become the Indian batsman with the most runs in the WTC. Shubman also surpassed Rohit Sharma, who had scored 2716 runs in this matter.
Shubman Gill has scored five Test centuries as captain this calendar year. Gill also holds the record for most Test centuries as captain in a calendar year for an Indian. He has equaled Virat Kohli, who has twice scored five Test centuries in a calendar year as captain. Kohli scored five Test centuries in 2017 and 2018, while also serving as captain at the time.
