Shreyas Iyer has eased concerns surrounding his recent hand injury and is expected to feature in the upcoming IPL 2026 clash between Chennai Super Kings and Punjab Kings on April 3 at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
The Punjab Kings captain suffered a painful blow to his hand during the previous match against the Gujarat Titans, which initially raised doubts about his availability for the important fixture against CSK. However, the latest update from the team camp suggests that the injury is not serious.
Shreyas Iyer Injury Update
Punjab Kings (PBKS) assistant coach Brad Haddin has provided a positive update on Iyer’s fitness, confirming that the PBKS skipper did not sustain a fracture.
According to Haddin, the primary concern is swelling in Iyer’s right hand, and the medical team is working to reduce it while ensuring he regains full movement before the match.
“There is no break, which is the good news. Now it’s just about getting the swelling down and getting the movement back in the hand, so he should be right for tomorrow,” Haddin said during the pre-match press conference.
This update comes as a major relief for Punjab Kings, as Iyer remains a key player in their batting lineup and leadership group.
How Did Shreyas Iyer Get Injured?
The injury occurred during Punjab Kings previous match against Gujarat Titans when Iyer was struck on the hand by a powerful shot from Cooper Connolly.
The impact looked worrying initially, forcing the physio to rush onto the field and provide treatment. Although Iyer continued for a short while, he was dismissed soon after the incident.
During the post-match presentation, the PBKS skipper jokingly said he did not want to jinx anything but was keeping his fingers crossed ahead of the next match.

PBKS Were Lucky, Says Haddin
Brad Haddin admitted that the incident could have resulted in a much more serious injury.
He explained that the ball struck Iyer quite hard and initially looked like it might lead to a major setback for the team. Fortunately, medical checks confirmed that the injury was minor.
“We were very lucky. He was hit hard by Cooper. At the start it looked like it could be a nasty incident, but in the end we got the best possible result,” Haddin said.
Will Shreyas Iyer Play Against CSK in IPL 2026?
Based on the latest update from the Punjab Kings camp, Shreyas Iyer is likely to play in the match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Although there is still some swelling in his right hand, the absence of a fracture means the PBKS captain is expected to recover in time for the clash. A final decision will likely be taken after assessing his hand movement during the team’s pre-match preparations.
If Iyer is declared fit, it will be a major boost for Punjab Kings as they prepare to face a strong CSK side led by Ruturaj Gaikwad.
