During the interrogation, the ED wants to understand what his role or relationship has been with this app. The ED is investigating whether Shikhar Dhawan used his image in the promotion of this betting app and took any payment in return. The inquiry is being conducted under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and Dhawan's statement will also be recorded under the same Act (PMLA). The ED is trying to find out any financial or non-financial partnership of his in this illegal network. This investigation is allegedly linked to the illegal betting app 1xBet.

Which other cricketers are on ED's radar?

No concrete allegation has been confirmed against Shikhar Dhawan so far, but it is clear from the ED's questioning that the agency wants to investigate the matter in depth. More big names are likely to come to the fore in the coming time. Market research agencies and investigating organizations estimate that about 22 crore people in India use different online betting applications, out of which about half (about 11 crore) are regular users.

Experts estimate that India's online betting market is worth more than US $ 100 billion and is growing at a rate of about 30 percent every year. Apart from this, the government informed the Parliament that 1,524 instructions were issued between the year 2022 and June 2025, ordering the blocking of online betting and gambling platforms.
