Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have announced that former Australian all-rounder Shane Watson will be their assistant coach for the upcoming IPL 2026 season. KKR’s CEO Venky Mysore welcomed Watson to the team and said that his experience will help the franchise perform even better in the next season.
Shane Watson Joins KKR as a Assistant Coach
KKR has added Shane Watson to their coaching staff to bring more international experience and cricket knowledge to the team. Watson will work closely with head coach Abhishek Nayar. The team believes that his skills as a player and coach will help them win their fourth IPL title.
Watson shared his happiness after joining KKR and said,
“I’m honoured to join such an iconic team like Kolkata Knight Riders. I’ve always loved how passionate KKR fans are. I’m excited to work with the coaches and players to bring another trophy to Kolkata.”

Shane Watson’s Cricket Career
Shane Watson is one of the most successful all-rounders in cricket history. He played 59 Tests, 190 ODIs, and 58 T20 Internationals for Australia, scoring over 10,000 runs and taking more than 280 wickets. He was also part of Australia’s 2007 and 2015 World Cup-winning teams.
In the IPL, Watson played from 2008 to 2020 and appeared in 145 matches, hitting four centuries. He was known for his powerful batting and match-winning performances, especially his brilliant century in the 2018 IPL Final for Chennai Super Kings.

KKR’s IPL Record
KKR is one of the top teams in IPL history, having won the title three times - in 2012, 2014, and 2024. They were also runners-up in 2021. With Watson joining Abhishek Nayar in the coaching setup, the team will aim to win their fourth IPL trophy in 2026.
