Back in 2008, when the first season of the IPL commenced, the Rajasthan Royals signed Shane Warne to serve as both their captain and coach. At that time, Warne negotiated a unique stipulation alongside his remuneration package. He stipulated that for every year he played for the team, he would receive a 0.75% equity stake (ownership share) in the franchise.
- Salary: A mere ₹9.35 crore for four seasons.
- Condition: A 0.75% equity stake for each year of service.
- Outcome: After playing for four years, Warne had accumulated a 3% ownership stake in the team.
