Rohit was selected in the national team for the first time in India's tour of Ireland in 2007. He started his international career with an ODI against Ireland in Belfast but did not get a chance to bat. He then batted in the next match against South Africa and scored only eight runs.

In the third match of the T20 series against England in 2018, Rohit Sharma played an unbeaten innings of 100 runs in 56 balls for Team India and played an important role in Team India winning its first T20 series on England's soil. Rohit Sharma scored 92 runs in 41 balls with the help of 7 fours and 8 sixes in this innings. By defeating a big team like Australia in the Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2024, the Indian team topped its group and qualified for the semi-final stage.

Thanks to this innings, Rohit Sharma has become the first Indian captain to win the Man of the Match award as a captain in the T20 World Cup.
