Rohit Sharma record as ODI captain: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the Indian squad for the three-match ODI and five-match T20I series against Australia. Following the announcement, 38-year-old Rohit Sharma will no longer be the captain of the ODI team. The board has decided to appoint young star Shubman Gill as Rohit's successor.

This decision marks a significant shift in Indian cricket, reflecting long-term plans for the future. 38-year-old Rohit Sharma retired from T20Is after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup and from the Test series against England earlier this year. In such a situation, the 50-over format was the only active format left for Rohit.
On the other hand, Shubman Gill was recently appointed captain of the Indian Test team. His excellent form and ability to think in the best interest of the team under any circumstances make him a special player. Gill has had a successful start to his captaincy career and shows all the makings of a good leader. With veterans like Rohit and Virat Kohli at the helm, Gill will find it easier to lead the team and will also learn a lot from both players.
