Rohit Sharma name stand Wankhede Stadium

The stand named after Rohit Sharma will be inaugurated at a ceremony at the Wankhede Stadium on May 16. The event will take place at 4 pm, in which Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) officials and Rohit's family members will be present. Recently, Rohit announced his retirement from Test cricket. Rohit has already retired from T20 and now he will play only in ODI format for India.

This honor is being given by MCA to recognize Rohit Sharma's unprecedented contribution and his brilliant career in cricket. Wankhede Stadium, where Rohit has played many memorable innings, will now also have a stand named Rohit Sharma Stand. The Wankhede Stadium already has stands named after many legendary cricketers including Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Rohit's name will also be added to that list.

Now sitting and thinking that my sport is going to have a stadium stand is a surreal feeling. This is something I never thought of and I will always be grateful for this huge honour in my life.

Level three of the Divecha Pavilion at the Wankhede Stadium will be named after Rohit. Under Rohit's captaincy, India has won the T20 World Cup 2024 and the Champions Trophy 2025. Even though he has retired from the T20 format and Tests, his achievements will always remain immortal.

Recalling the old days about the stand being named after him at the Wankhede Stadium, Rohit had said that when someone starts playing cricket, he does not even dream about such things. I still remember those days when I used to stand outside the Wankhede Stadium to watch the Mumbai Ranji Trophy team practice. I am talking about 2004 or maybe 2003. We used to complete our Under-14, Under-16 training at Azad Maidan. I used to cross the railway track with some of my friends to get a glimpse of some Ranji Trophy cricketers.
