The champion team of IPL 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), may soon get a new owner. The current owner, Diageo, has officially started the process to sell the franchise. The company shared this information in a letter sent to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE).
RCB is managed by Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL). This company is fully owned by United Spirits Limited (USL), which is the Indian branch of Diageo.
Why Is RCB Being Sold?
United Spirits explained that RCB has always been a valuable and respected brand for them. However, their main business is alcohol and beverages, and owning a cricket team does not fit directly with that business focus.
So, the company has started a strategic review to find a new owner for the team.
They expect the sale process to be completed by March 31, 2026.
RCB Teams in Both IPL and WPL
The RCSPL company owns:
- The Men’s RCB Team in the IPL
- The Women’s RCB Team in the WPL
Both teams are very popular and have a massive fan following across India and worldwide.

Who Might Buy RCB?
Several big business groups and companies are interested in purchasing the franchise. Some of the names in the list include:
- A private investment company from the USA
- Adani Group
- JSW Group (Jindal)
- Adar Poonawalla from Serum Institute of India
- Ravi Jaipuria from Devyani International Group
This shows how strong the RCB brand value is in the market.
What the Company Said
USL Managing Director and CEO Praveen Someswar said:
“RCB has been a valuable part of our company, but it does not align with our main business. We want to focus more on our core beverage brands. The decision is taken while keeping long-term benefits in mind for the team and stakeholders.”
Conclusion
The sale of RCB is a major development in the cricket world. Fans are now waiting to see who will become the new owner of one of the most loved teams in the IPL.
