Punjab Kings sign Mitchell Owen to replace Glenn Maxwell for IPL 2025

Punjab Kings have announced the replacement for injured Glenn Maxwell. The Australian all-rounder had to be ruled out of IPL 2025 due to a finger injury. Now Punjab Kings have chosen all-rounder Mitchell Owen in place of Glenn Maxwell. Mitchell Owen has not yet made his debut for Australia. He is an uncapped foreign player. Punjab Kings have announced this replacement before the match against Lucknow Super Giants in Dharamsala.

Mitchell Owen replaces Glenn Maxwell in PBKS

Mitchell Owen became a household name during the Big Bash League as he led the Hobart Hurricanes to the title with a brilliant innings in the final. He went unsold in last year's mega auction but got a chance to represent Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League. Punjab Kings have roped in Mitchell Owen for Rs 3 crore in place of Maxwell, who was earlier ruled out due to a broken finger. In 30 T20 innings, Mitchell Owen has scored 646 runs including two centuries at an average of 25.84 and a strike rate of 184.57.

He has also picked up ten wickets with his medium pace bowling in the shorter format. Maxwell's injury should not be considered a huge setback for Punjab Kings, as he struggled with his form in IPL 2025. In six IPL innings, the veteran all-rounder managed to score only 48 runs at an average of eight and a strike rate of 97.96.

Mitchell Owen performance in PSL 2025

Mitchell Owen was an integral part of Peshawar Zalmi in PSL 2025. The explosive right-handed batsman scored 101 runs in six innings at an impressive strike rate of 198.04.

Although he hasn't been able to register an exceptional average with the bat, this can be attributed to Zalmi's decision to use him primarily as a lower middle-order batsman in the competition. However, it will be interesting to see where the Kings fit him into their line-up, as their top-order consisting of Priyansh Arya, Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh has been impressive.
