In its recent board meeting in Dubai on Friday (November 7), the global cricket body (ICC) confirmed that six teams each from the men's and women's categories will participate in the Los Angeles Olympics.

• Changed Selection Basis: Teams will no longer be selected based on the ICC T20 International rankings.
• Regional Representation: Teams will be selected based on the top teams from the region/continent.
• Sixth Team: The sixth team will enter the tournament through a global qualifier.

This regional representation rule is the only way India can achieve this. And this is reducing Pakistan's chances of competing, as only one top team from a region (Asia) will receive direct entry.

Which teams will qualify directly for the LA 2028 Olympics?

Based on the current rankings, the top teams from their respective continents are expected to participate in the Olympics:

• From Asia: India
• From Oceania: Australia
• From Europe: England (as Great Britain)
• From Africa: South Africa
