India is off to a flying start in the Cricket World Cup 2023, having won all five of their first five matches, defeating prominent nations like Australia, Pakistan, and New Zealand. Following the Indian team's 4-wicket triumph against the Kiwis in Dharamsala on Sunday, Pakistan great Shoaib Akhtar made some daring statements, claiming that even Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and others are individually capable of defeating the Kiwis in 2018 World Cup.
Virat Kohli spearheaded India's run-chase, making 95 runs to bring the team home. In praising India's superstar, Akhtar emphasized how pressure brings out the best in him.
Shoaib Akhtar's Bold Prediction
"He thrives in stressful situations." For him, pressure creates possibilities. And why not? Opportunities include hitting a century, playing match-winning knocks, and being followed on Instagram. "This guy is deserving," Akhtar stated on his YouTube channel.
The Rawalpindi Express went on to suggest that players like Shubman Gill, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and others would have been enough to beat this New Zealand squad.
"This New Zealand team only needs Shubman Gill." He might have sufficed if Rohit Sharma had not walked out so carelessly. Even if KL Rahul moves up to number 3 or 4, he is sufficient. India's batting lineup is extensive."
"Everyone is aware of what Kohli did today, but Rahul also carried the load." Suryakumar had also done so had he not got out," he said.
Akhtar also praised Mohammed Shami, who was playing in his maiden tournament game. Shami took 5 wickets and was awarded player of the match.
"However, Shami played a significant role in ensuring that New Zealand did not score 300-350." He was a touch pricey, but that's understandable given that he struck out five hitters. He has demonstrated his capability, and India must maintain the same bowling attack. They have a full batting and pitching lineup. "There is no way India should not win the World Cup," Akhtar said.
