Batting first, New Zealand scored 177 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, West Indies were all out for 168 runs in 19.5 overs, giving New Zealand a 9-run victory.
With this win, New Zealand has taken a 2-1 lead in the five-match series.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, New Zealand got off to a strong start. Tim Robinson and Devon Conway added 47 runs for the first wicket in 5.5 overs. Robinson scored 23 runs off 21 balls. Conway then shared a 50-run partnership with Rachin Ravindra in 28 balls, putting the team in a strong position in the middle order.
Devon Conway scored 56 runs off 34 balls, including 6 fours and 2 sixes. Daryl Mitchell also contributed 41 runs. For the West Indies, Matthew Ford and Jason Holder took 2 wickets each, while Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer took 1 wicket each.
Chasing a target of 177, the West Indies struggled early. Opener Amir Jangoo was dismissed for just 5 runs, while captain Shai Hope also made a single. The team lost two wickets for 15 runs.
Akim Auguste and Alick Athanaze then added 38 runs for the third wicket. Athanaze scored 31 runs off 23 balls. By the end of the match, Romario Shepherd and Shamar Springer added 78 runs for the ninth wicket. Shepherd scored 49 runs off 34 balls, while Springer played a blistering innings of 39 runs off 20 balls.
Jacob Duffy and Ish Sodhi took three wickets each for New Zealand.
Earlier, the West Indies won the first T20I in Auckland by 7 runs. New Zealand made a remarkable comeback in the second match at the same venue, winning by 3 runs. With the victory in the third match, the Kiwis have taken the lead in the series and are in command heading into the fourth match.
