Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will face off in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 on Monday, April 7, at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
MI have struggled in the early stages of the season, securing just one victory in four matches. They began with a loss to Chennai Super Kings (CSK), followed by another defeat against Gujarat Titans (GT). Their sole win came against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), but they suffered another setback in their last game against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
RCB, on the other hand, started strongly with wins over KKR and CSK before stumbling against GT in their third match. Despite the recent loss, they have shown promise in their campaign so far.
With both teams eager to bounce back, this clash promises an exciting battle between two star-studded batting line-ups. Here are three players who could dominate the runs in today’s MI vs. RCB encounter.
RCB captain Rajat Patidar has been in solid form this season. He started with a quickfire 34 off 16 balls against KKR, followed by a 51 off 32 against CSK. Though he managed only 12 runs against GT, his overall strike rate of 161.66 and average of 32.33 highlight his impact.
Patidar’s aggressive approach against spin will be crucial at the Wankhede Stadium. As RCB look to regain momentum, his performance at the top could set the tone for their innings.
Suryakumar Yadav has been MI’s standout batter this season, amassing 171 runs in four matches at an average of 57.00 and a strike rate of 161.32, including a half-century.
Even in MI’s defeat to LSG, Yadav shone with a 43-ball 67, striking at 155.81. His consistency in the middle order makes him a key player for Mumbai. If MI are to challenge RCB, Yadav’s explosive batting will be vital.
Virat Kohli began IPL 2025 with an unbeaten fifty against KKR but has been relatively quiet in the last two games, scoring 31 against CSK and just 7 against GT. However, his record against MI and at the Wankhede Stadium makes him a prime candidate for a big innings.
In 33 IPL matches against MI, Kohli has scored 855 runs at an average of 30.54, including five fifties. At the Wankhede, he averages 45.08 in 17 IPL games, with 541 runs at a strike rate of 138.01. Given his love for this venue, Kohli could be the top run-scorer in this clash.
