MS Dhoni T20 World Cup 2026 interview with Jatin Sapru: The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 is about to begin. India and Sri Lanka are jointly hosting this mega-event, which starts on February 7th. Excitement among fans is at its peak, but the biggest question remains can India defend its title under the captaincy of Suryakumar Yadav?

In a recent conversation with renowned sports presenter Jatin Sapru, India's most successful captain, MS Dhoni, spoke candidly about Team India's strengths and the challenges that could hinder their path.

Team India is the 'Most Dangerous' Team in the World: MS Dhoni

Dhoni, considered one of the sharpest minds in the world of cricket, seemed quite impressed with the Indian team's current form. He said about the team

"The current Indian team is one of the most dangerous teams. They have tremendous depth in both batting and bowling. Most importantly, the players know their roles and know how to perform under pressure."

According to Dhoni, the team's confidence has increased after the 2024 title win, and the players have become masters of this format.

Dew Factor: Dhoni's Biggest Fear

Even though Team India looks strong on paper and on the field, there's one thing that 'Captain Cool' dislikes intensely, and that is dew.

Dhoni acknowledged that dew can completely change the outcome of a match

  • Importance of the Toss: Due to dew, winning or losing the toss becomes crucial.
  • Bowling Difficulties: It becomes difficult for both spinners and fast bowlers to grip the wet ball.
  • Dhoni's Experience: Mahi said, "Even when I played, I was afraid of dew. It's something that takes control away from the game."

The Uncertainty of T20 Cricket: The Risk of a Bad Day

Dhoni made a very practical point that in T20 cricket, any team can cause an upset on any given day. According to him

  • A Bad Day: If your key players have a bad day and one player from the opposing team performs well, the equation changes.
  • Knockout Pressure: If this 'bad day' happens in the league stage, there's a chance to recover, but in the knockout stages (semi-finals/finals), it can be fatal.

The Challenge of Defending the Title

India won the T20 World Cup in 2024 after a long wait of 17 years. Now, the challenge in 2026 is to retain that title. Dhoni made it clear that he doesn't "want to jinx it," but he has complete faith in the team's capabilities. He just hopes that the players don't get injured and that all the players fulfill their responsibilities properly.
