The tournament began in 1998 in Bangladesh under the name "ICC Knockout" and was rebranded as "ICC Champions Trophy" in 2002. Initially held every two years, the tournament switched to a four-year cycle from 2009. After an eight-year absence, the ICC Champions Trophy will return in 2025, with Pakistan and UAE as hosts. Pakistan will hold matches at three different venues, while the Dubai International Cricket Stadium will host all the fixtures in the UAE.
