Mohsin Naqvi Locks Asia Cup Trophy in Dubai Office, Refuses to Hand It to India

Dubai: The tension between India and Pakistan continues even after the conclusion of the Asia Cup 2025. According to reports, Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Chairman and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi has locked the Asia Cup trophy in the ACC headquarters in Dubai and has issued strict instructions that it should not be moved or handed over to anyone without his explicit approval or physical presence.

India Won, But Trophy Still in Dubai

The Asia Cup 2025 concluded last month with India defeating Pakistan in a tense final. However, weeks after the victory, the championship trophy still remains inside the ACC office instead of being with the Indian team. Sources close to the matter revealed that Naqvi himself took the trophy off the presentation stage following the final, after the Indian team reportedly refused to accept it from him during the post-match ceremony on September 28.

The refusal reportedly came amidst strained diplomatic relations between the two nations following a terror attack in Pahalgam, which further escalated tensions during the tournament.

Strict Orders from Mohsin Naqvi

A source close to Naqvi told PTI, “As of today, the trophy is still in ACC offices in Dubai with clear instructions from Naqvi that it should not be moved or handed over to anyone without his approval and in-person presence.”

The source added, “Naqvi has made it very clear that only he will hand over the trophy in person to the Indian team or BCCI, whenever that happens.”

Political Tensions Cast Shadow Over Asia Cup

The Asia Cup 2025 was overshadowed by political and diplomatic tensions between India and Pakistan. Reports suggest that players from both sides avoided handshakes during matches and refrained from any gestures of sportsmanship. The tension was evident throughout the tournament, both on and off the field.

Adding to the controversy, Mohsin Naqvi was accused of making politically motivated remarks on social media during the tournament, drawing criticism from Indian cricket officials. His decision to personally remove the trophy from the stage, without allowing any BCCI or Indian representative to receive it, has further strained cricketing relations between the two nations.

BCCI Preparing Formal Response

According to the same PTI report, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to formally raise the matter at the upcoming ICC board meeting. The agenda may include discussions on seeking a formal censure of Naqvi or even pushing for his removal as an ICC Director.

As the issue gains international attention, cricket fans across the world await to see how the ACC and ICC handle this diplomatic standoff that has once again placed the India-Pakistan rivalry under the spotlight — this time, off the field.
