After Babar Azam resigns from the captaincy, Mohammad Rizwan can replace him. He can be the new captain of Pakistan's ODI and T20 team. Mohammad Rizwan is at the forefront in the race to take over the captaincy. At the same time, Babar Azam, Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah can return to the ODI and T20 team for the Australia tour.
Pakistan's experienced wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan could be the next captain of the ODI and T20I team. He is the frontrunner in the race for the new captain. The PCB may soon announce the team for the tour of Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. For this, the Pakistan selectors have held a meeting with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi in the last two days. Also, white ball cricket team head coach Gary Kirsten has been consulted.
The third Test against England will end on October 28 and the team is scheduled to leave for Australia the next day, so the selectors will announce the limited-overs squad by Sunday. The report further states that Rizwan is the frontrunner to become the captain of the limited-overs team due to his seniority, his credibility as a player and his experience of leading teams in domestic cricket and the PSL.
Babar Azam had resigned from the Pakistan team earlier this month and said that he wanted to focus on his career. Pakistan has played 9 ODIs and 9 T20 Internationals in Australia, Zimbabwe and South Africa. He also got a chance to play two Test matches against South Africa before returning home.
The board has now given the selectors the right to choose the captain. Aqib, Azhar Ali and Aleem Dar have already spoken to Rizwan and expressed their desire to take up this responsibility. At the same time, the selectors can include Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Naseem Shah in the ODI and T20 squads after being rested for the last two Test matches against England.
