Mohammad Amir retires from international cricket for the second time

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has announced his retirement from international cricket for the second time. Amir, who announced his retirement in 2019, took a U-turn on the decision and declared himself available for the T20 World Cup 2024. Amir was included in Pakistan's squad for the showpiece event, but Pakistan's performance was extremely poor and they were knocked out of the tournament without qualifying for the second round. Amir's decision comes a day after Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim announced his retirement from international cricket. Like Amir, Imad also made a comeback from retirement to play the T20 World Cup. The cricketers were dropped from the Pakistan team after poor performances and their careers were almost over.

Since making his international debut in June 2009, Aamir has played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is for Pakistan and has taken 271 wickets across formats. The most spectacular performance of Aamir's career was the 2017 Champions Trophy final, in which he destroyed the Indian top order by taking the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan and led Pakistan to a glorious victory.

In an official release issued by the Pakistan Cricket Board, Aamir said, It has been a great honour for me to play for Pakistan in all three formats. I know this is a difficult decision, but I feel this is the right time for the next generation to take Pakistan cricket to new heights.

Mohammad Amir said

I would like to thank the PCB for always providing the necessary support over the years and I look forward to seeing the team perform even better. I would also like to thank the Pakistan fans who have always supported me throughout my career. Meanwhile, Imad made his international debut against Zimbabwe at home in May 2015 and has played 55 ODIs and 75 T20Is for Pakistan.
