Senior BCCI administrators and key decision-makers held an informal meeting on Saturday to finalize candidates for the vacant board positions ahead of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) on September 28.
According to sources, those whose names were considered were invited to the meeting. Former cricketer Mithun Manhas, who hails from the Jammu Cricket Association, will be the BCCI president, while Rajeev Shukla will continue in his former position as vice-president.
Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) President Raghuram Bhat may become treasurer. Former Indian spinner Bhat's term as KSCA president ends on September 30.
Devjit Saikia will continue as secretary, while Prabhtej Bhatia may become joint secretary. Arun Singh Dhumal is expected to retain his IPL presidency. Former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh, who was sent to the Annual General Meeting (AGM) as a representative of the Punjab Cricket Association, did not attend the meeting.
The ruling BJP wants players to hold key positions. However, the party rarely actively interferes in the affairs of sports bodies.
It has been confirmed that Pragyan Ojha will replace S. Sharath in the national senior selection committee. Sharath will replace V.S. Tilak Naidu as the new chairman of the junior selection committee. Former fast bowler RP Singh will replace Subroto Banerjee. The new selection committees will take office on September 28.
