Matthew Short has not yet got regular opportunities for Australia in his career. He was not considered the first choice for this series as well, but Jake Fraser-McGurk flopped in opening against Scotland. That is why Short was selected to open the innings with Travis Head. In the second T20 International, even though he played an innings of 28 runs in 24 balls, but in the first match he scored a quick 41 runs in 26 balls.
