Sri Lanka has qualified for the Super 8s of the T20 World Cup 2026, but the team has suffered a major setback even before this round. Fast bowler Mathisha Pathirana has been ruled out of the entire tournament due to injury. The ICC said in a statement that left-arm fast bowler Dilshan Madushanka has joined the team as a replacement after receiving approval from the ICC Event Technical Committee.

The ICC said in a statement that Dilshan Madushanka has joined the Sri Lankan squad after the replacement was approved by the Event Technical Committee. Sri Lanka will face Zimbabwe in their final group stage match on Thursday. Zimbabwe also qualified for the Super 8s, having caused a major upset by defeating Australia in the current edition.
Sri Lanka has been placed in Group 2 of the Super 8s for the 2026 T20 World Cup. This group includes New Zealand, England, and Pakistan. Sri Lanka's first Super 8 match is against England on February 22nd. Sri Lanka's second match is against New Zealand on February 25th. Sri Lanka will play its third match against Pakistan on February 28th. The Super 8 teams have been divided into two groups, with the top two teams qualifying for the semi-finals.
