T20 cricket is considered a game of fast runs and fours and sixes, but this format can often prove to be a nightmare for teams. While some teams have scored over 250 runs, others have reached double figures before the end of 20 overs. In recent years, teams from smaller countries have gained opportunities at the international level, but their lack of experience often proves costly. Let's take a look at the lowest team scores in T20 international cricket history.
Team | Score | Opposition | Venue | Match Date |
---|---|---|---|---|
Ivory Coast | 7 | Nigeria | Lagos | 24th Nov 2024 |
Mongolia | 10 | Singapore | Bangi | 05th Sep 2024 |
Isle of Man | 10 | Spain | Cartagena | 26th Feb 2023 |
Mongolia | 12 | Japan | Sano | 08th May 2024 |
Mongolia | 17 | Hong Kong | Kuala Lumpur | 31st Aug 2024 |
Ivory Coast holds one of the most shameful records in T20 history. On November 24, 2024, in a match played in Abuja, Nigeria, Ivory Coast was all out for just 7 runs. The team achieved this total in 7.3 overs and lost the match by a huge margin. This remains the lowest team score in T20 history.
Mongolia scored 10 runs against Singapore at the Bangi Ground in September 2024. This score came in 10 overs, meaning the run rate was just 1.00. Singapore achieved this target in just a few balls. This match became an example of one-sided contests in T20 cricket.
The Spain vs. Isle of Man match on February 26, 2023, became a topic of discussion in cricket history. The Isle of Man team was bowled out for just 10 runs in 8.4 overs. In response, Spain won the match in just 2 overs without losing a wicket. At the time, this match was considered the shortest and most one-sided in T20I history.
The Mongolia cricket team was bowled out for just 12 runs in a Twenty20 International (T20I) match against Japan on May 8, 2024. The match will be played during Mongolia's 2024 tour of Japan. According to Mongolia's scorecard, their top scorer, Tuur Sumaya, was dismissed for 4 runs and the team conceded 3 extra runs. Seven batsmen were dismissed for zero, and the highest partnership was 4 runs. Japan's 17-year-old left-arm fast bowler, Kazuma Kato-Stafford, was brilliant, taking 5 wickets for 7 runs in 3.2 overs.
17 was the score for which Mongolia were all out in a T20 International against Hong Kong in 2024. The match was part of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier A and was played in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on 31 August 2024. At the time, this was the lowest total ever in a men's T20 International, although Mongolia unfortunately recorded even lower scores later that year (all out for 12 against Japan and all out for 10 against Singapore are the joint lowest scores).
