The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 action continues with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) taking on Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Tuesday, April 8 at the iconic Eden Gardens. Both sides have had similar starts to their campaigns, with two wins and two losses each from their four matches. Coming off victories in their previous games, both teams will be eager to build on that momentum and strengthen their position on the points table.
Eden Gardens has traditionally been a high-scoring venue, and the last match here saw KKR post a commanding 200/6 while batting first. However, since this is a day game, the pitch could offer some turn, making it essential for batters to apply themselves and pace their innings intelligently. While Quinton de Kock hasn't fully hit his stride in IPL 2025, he's shown flashes of brilliance. The KKR wicketkeeper-opener has accumulated 103 runs from four games, averaging 34.33 with a strike rate of 137.33. His standout performance came against Rajasthan Royals, where he played a breathtaking unbeaten knock of 97 off 61 balls, smashing eight boundaries and six sixes.
Although his last two outings have been quiet, de Kock is a proven match-winner at the top of the order. Playing at home in batting-friendly conditions, this could be the perfect opportunity for the South African to rediscover his rhythm and guide KKR to a strong total.
Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been a massive asset for LSG this season with the bat. As their second-highest run-scorer, Marsh has piled up 184 runs in four matches, boasting a healthy average of 46.00 and a blistering strike rate of 185.85. He has already registered three half-centuries, highlighting his consistency and aggressive approach.
In LSG’s previous match against Mumbai Indians, Marsh hammered a quick 60 off 31 deliveries, peppered with nine fours and two sixes. Opening the innings has allowed him to make maximum use of the powerplay, and his form will be crucial if LSG aim to dominate early in the innings against KKR.
Nicholas Pooran has been nothing short of spectacular for LSG in IPL 2025. The hard-hitting left-hander is their leading run-scorer with 201 runs from four games, maintaining a stellar average of 50.25 and an extraordinary strike rate of 218.47. He has already registered two fifties, often taking games away from the opposition in a matter of overs.
Although he had a short stay at the crease against MI—scoring 12 runs off 6 balls—Pooran showed his intent with a four and a six. If he gets going against KKR’s bowling attack, he could be the biggest threat. His aggressive middle-order presence, especially in the death overs, makes him a crucial figure in LSG’s lineup.
