The 12th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Punjab Kings ended without a result after heavy rain interrupted play at Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Due to the weather conditions and a wet outfield, the match had to be called off, with both teams sharing one point each.
Rain Interrupts Game After Just 3.4 Overs
After winning the toss, Kolkata Knight Riders decided to bat first. However, the hosts had a shaky start as Punjab Kings bowlers struck early in the innings.
Opener Finn Allen was dismissed in the second over after scoring 8 runs. Soon after, Cameron Green also returned to the pavilion with only four runs to his name. With two early wickets down, captain Ajinkya Rahane and youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi attempted to stabilize the innings.
But rain arrived during the fourth over, forcing players off the field after just 3.4 overs of play.
Persistent Rain Forces Officials to Call Off the Match
Although the rain stopped briefly around 10:30 PM, the ground conditions remained unsuitable for play. After inspecting the outfield, the umpires decided to abandon the game, leaving fans disappointed at Eden Gardens.
Punjab Kings Climb to the Top of the Points Table
The abandoned match helped Punjab Kings strengthen their position in the standings. PBKS, who had already won their first two matches, now have five points from three games and moved to the top of the IPL 2026 points table.
