Jasprit Bumrah's workload: South African veteran AB de Villiers did not agree with the decision to rest Team India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah.
Team India lost the first match of the five-match Test series being played between India and England by 5 wickets in Leeds. Now the second Test is to be played at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 2.
Before this Test, coach Gautam Gambhir had talked about Jasprit Bumrah's workload management that he would play three Test matches. Now AB de Villiers has given a statement on his decision.

De Villiers has targeted coach Gambhir and the Indian team management. He gave the example of former fast bowler Dale Steyn and advised to manage Bumrah's workload.
Actually, Team India's fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is seen bowling brilliantly everywhere, be it on his own land or on foreign soil. He is Team India's biggest weapon, but in the five-match Test series against England, he will play only three matches (Ind vs Eng Test 2025).
This decision has been taken in view of his workload, but former South African captain AB de Villiers did not agree with the decision to give him rest.
He talked about managing the workload, giving the example of the once great bowler Dale Steyn. Steyn also used to play all the matches in the series in which he was a part of the South African team. De Villiers said on his YouTube channel,

"Bumrah is probably the top bowler in the world in all formats at the moment. So it is very difficult to decide what is the way to give him rest. In my opinion, Test cricket is the highest format of the game. In such a situation, Bumrah is most needed in this Test series that he plays all five matches."

He further said that we used to do the same with Dale Steyn. He was given rest in less important T20 and ODI series. Steyn was asked to be ready for the big Test series against Australia, England and India at their home. To some extent against New Zealand as well, it depended on the rankings then.
Former Proteas captain AB De Villiers accused the Indian team management of not managing the players properly and said,
"So, I don't know if it was mismanagement or maybe because he has recently come back from injury, he looked at the IPL as a warm-up phase. Probably, Bumrah went to the surgeon, who told him you can't play five Test matches. So, I mean you have to respect that and at the end of the day it is up to Team India to handle him well."
