Jamie Overton announces indefinite break from Test cricket ahead of Ashes series: A bowler playing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL-2025 has taken a surprising decision regarding his cricketing career. England fast bowler Jamie Overton has taken a big decision ahead of the Ashes series against Australia. Overton has taken an indefinite break from Test cricket. The reason for Overton's decision is not being able to fully commit to all three formats. 31-year-old Overton has played two Test matches. He took part in the match played at the Oval during the five-match Test series against India.

• Through a press release issued by the England Cricket Board, Jamie Overton said- After much thought, I have decided to take an indefinite break from red-ball cricket. I consider myself very fortunate to have played 99 first-class matches, including two Test matches, for England.
• Red-ball first-class cricket has laid the foundation for my professional career, and has been the gateway to every opportunity I have had in the game so far. It is from here that I learned the game and it fueled my goals and ambitions that have driven me for so long.
• However, at this stage of my career, with the demands of cricket across a 12-month calendar, it is no longer possible to be fully dedicated to all formats at every level, both physically and mentally. Going forward, my focus will remain on white-ball cricket, and I will continue to give my all to play at the highest level for as long as I can.
• On the other hand, on Overton taking a break from red ball cricket, England men's team director Rob Key said - Jamie's news came unexpectedly and it was sad to see, as he would have been a part of our red ball plans in the near future.
• It would not be wrong to say that it reminds us of the cricket landscape in which we work now. We respect his decision and are grateful to him for informing us.

Jamie Overton Cricket Career

Overton has played only six ODIs and 12 T20Is in his international career that began in 2022. He plays for Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and was recently in England playing for London Spirit in The Hundred. His decision to take a break from first-class career could be due to keeping his calendar free to be available for T20 leagues globally.
