Jacques Kallis has been a part of KKR's coaching staff before. In 2015, he was the team's head coach and batting consultant. However, he left the franchise after this season. This season, KKR's team could not qualify for the playoffs. The team was in an impressive position with 15 points in 14 matches.
Before becoming the head coach, Kallis played 4 seasons as a player for KKR. He was a part of the team from 2011 to 2014. During this time, he also played an important role in making KKR champions in 2012 and 2014. Kallis scored 409 runs in 17 matches in the 2012 season and 151 runs in 8 matches in the 2014 season.
Almost the entire support staff of the KKR team will change before the next season of IPL, as team mentor Gautam Gambhir, batting coach Abhishek Nair and fielding coach Ryan ten Doeschate have now joined the Indian team. Only head coach Chandrakant Pandit and bowling coach Bharat Arun are part of the team's support staff on a permanent basis.
Under the captaincy of Shreyas Iyer, KKR won the IPL trophy for the third time last season. The team registered a one-sided victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the final match by 8 wickets with 57 balls remaining. Earlier, KKR won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir.
