For this, Bosch had to leave PSL, after which the Pakistan Cricket Board issued a legal notice against him. The board claimed that this is a violation of the rules. Here are the key points of the injured player replacement rule in IPL 2025. When can teams take advantage of this rule and replace their injured players with another player in their squad?

Replacement window: IPL teams can now replace injured players till their 12th league match. Earlier this time period was only up to 7 matches. This time it has been extended.

Who Can Become A Replacement Player

A replacement player can only be one who is included in the registered available player pool for that season. His league fee cannot be higher than the fee of the player he is replacing. The league fees of replaced players do not count against the team's salary cap for the current season. If the replaced player's contract is extended to the next season, his fee will count against the salary cap.

Impact of replacements on IPL salary cap

The biggest concern for franchises when signing replacement players is how it affects their salary cap for the season. The BCCI has issued clear guidelines on this issue

The replacement player's salary does not count against the team's overall salary cap for that season.
If a team decides to retain the replacement player for the next season, his entire salary will be included in the cap.
The franchises will have to ensure that the total number of players in their squad does not exceed 25 even after replacements.
If a team signs a replacement player during IPL 2025, 2026 or 2027, they will have the option to extend his contract, but he will be treated as a regular squad member as per salary cap rules from the next season.

Mid-tournament replacement terms

The player's injury or illness must occur during or before the team's 12th league match.
The doctor nominated by the BCCI must confirm that the player cannot recover from the injury until the end of the season.
A player who is out due to injury cannot play any further matches in the season.
Teams must ensure that even after the replacement of the player, the maximum number of players in the team cannot exceed 25.
