The race for the Purple Cap in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has already become exciting as bowlers continue to deliver strong performances in the early matches of the season.

In the previous edition, Prasidh Krishna finished as the leading wicket-taker in IPL 2025, claiming 25 wickets in 15 matches to win the prestigious Purple Cap. As the new season progresses, several bowlers are now competing to claim the same honour in 2026.

IPL 2026 Off to an Action-Packed Start

The IPL 2026 season began with an exciting opener at the iconic M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru started their title defence against Sunrisers Hyderabad in front of a packed crowd.

Since that opening clash, the tournament has quickly gathered momentum with 12 more matches already completed. Fans have witnessed high-scoring contests, thrilling finishes, and some impressive bowling spells that have shaped the early Purple Cap standings.

Rajasthan Bowlers Dominate Rain-Affected RR vs MI Clash

One of the recent matches between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Mumbai Indians (MI) turned into a rain-curtailed encounter. Despite the shortened game, Rajasthan’s bowling attack stood out with disciplined and effective spells.

Interestingly, all the notable bowling performances in the match came from the Rajasthan side, as the Mumbai bowlers struggled to control the flow of runs.

Leading the effort was England pacer Jofra Archer, who bowled a tight spell and finished with 1/17. South African fast bowler Nandre Burger continued his good form, returning figures of 2/21.

Experienced seamer Sandeep Sharma also chipped in with 2/26, while leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi picked up 2/25, adding to his impressive tally this season.

Their combined efforts helped Rajasthan maintain control and highlighted the depth in their bowling attack.

Following the early matches of the season, Ravi Bishnoi currently sits at the top of the Purple Cap leaderboard. The young leg-spinner has been extremely effective with his variations and has troubled batters consistently across matches.

His ability to pick wickets in the middle overs has been crucial, helping him move ahead in the race for the tournament’s highest wicket-taker.

Purple Cap Race Set to Heat Up

Although the tournament has just begun, the Purple Cap race is already shaping up nicely. Bowlers like Ravi Bishnoi and Nandre Burger have made strong starts, but with many matches still remaining, the leaderboard is likely to change frequently.

As IPL 2026 progresses, more bowlers are expected to step up with match-winning spells, making the competition for the Purple Cap even more intense. Cricket fans can look forward to many more exciting bowling performances in the weeks ahead.
