IPL 2026 Mini Auction: Delhi Capitals may release 5 players: The Delhi Capitals (DC) have been one of the strongest teams in IPL history. However, despite impressive performances in every season of the league, the team has yet to lift the coveted IPL trophy. Even in IPL 2025, the team, led by Axar Patel, missed out on a playoff spot and finished fifth in the points table.

For the upcoming IPL 2026 season, the Delhi Capitals management will undoubtedly have a decisive overhaul planned, aiming to win the title. The team may make some major and strategic changes while retaining its core group. These changes could manifest as releasing some key players before the mini-auction.

Left-arm fast bowler T. Natarajan could also be released. He played in just two matches in IPL 2025. With a world-class left-arm pacer like Mitchell Starc already in the team, Natarajan has found it difficult to find a place in the playing XI. Despite his considerable IPL experience, releasing a bench-bound player could allow DC to increase their team's purse value and look for another bowling option.

Indian middle-order batsman Karun Nair's IPL career has also been filled with uncertainty. Despite his impressive form in domestic cricket, he hasn't been able to replicate it on the big stage of the IPL. In IPL 2025, Nair scored 198 runs in 8 innings, which wasn't enough to meet the team's middle-order needs. Due to his failure, DC management may be looking for a young Indian player who can score quickly and provide stability in the middle order.

The performance of experienced Indian fast bowler Mohit Sharma has also been questionable. In IPL 2025, his performance was quite weak compared to his previous record. Taking just 2 wickets in 8 matches is not enough for a bowler of his experience. Although he has performed well in the past, given his current form and increased economy rate (conceding more runs), Delhi Capitals may look to new, younger options to reinvigorate their fast bowling attack.

Australian opener Jake Fraser-McGurk may be dropped from the team. Known for his aggressive batting, the young player failed to live up to expectations in IPL 2025, scoring just 55 runs in 6 matches. Fraser-McGurk's disappointing performance could force Delhi Capitals to look for a more reliable and consistent top-order batsman, especially in the mini-auction.

Experienced South African batsman and former captain Faf du Plessis may be released by Delhi Capitals. In IPL 2025, he failed to make a significant impact, scoring only 202 runs in nine innings. His captaincy contributions were significant, but his fitness issues hampered the team during the season. Given du Plessis's age and injuries, DC may now seek an experienced foreign player who can provide more stability to the top order and guarantee availability for every match.
