IPL 2026 Auction: Even if the bidding for a foreign player reaches 20 or 30 crore rupees, they will still only receive a salary of 18 crore rupees. This means that no matter how high the bid goes, even up to 50 crore rupees, the foreign player will only receive 18 crore rupees. Why is this the case, and which BCCI rule is the main reason behind it?

BCCI Maximum Fees Rule

According to the 'Maximum Fee Rule' implemented by the BCCI, a foreign player in the mini-auction will receive the lower of the highest retention slab (₹18 crore) and the highest bid placed on the most expensive player in the previous mega auction (Rishabh Pant - ₹27 crore). This will apply even if the bidding reaches ₹50 crore. For example, if Cameron Green receives a bid of ₹30 crore, under the new rule, he will only receive ₹18 crore, and the remaining ₹12 crore will be taken by the BCCI and deposited into the Players' Welfare Fund.

This step was taken because some foreign players were trying to bypass the mega auction and secure large sums of money in the mini-auction. This rule applies not only to Cameron Green but to all foreign players. This means that even if the bidding goes above 18 crore rupees, they will still only receive a salary of 18 crore rupees.
