IPL 2025: Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) CEO Venky Mysore has revealed the thought process behind not retaining IPL 2024 winning captain Shreyas Iyer ahead of the mega auction. Under Shreyas' captaincy, KKR ended the 10-year trophy drought in 2024 and the team became the champion, but the franchise retained six other players except Shreyas Iyer in the retention list. Many reports had come out regarding this and it was being told that Shreyas was demanding more salary from KKR. So let's know why KKR removed Shreyas Iyer
Now managing director Venky Mysore has told that it was completely Shreyas' decision to part ways with the franchise. KKR has nothing to do with this and that is why he was not retained. He also indicated that Shreyas wanted to test his market value in the auction.

Speaking to RevSportz, Mysore said - He was number one in our retention list. He is the captain and we have to build the whole team around the leader. We selected him for good captaincy in 2022.' Mysore said that the retention process requires mutual consent and this could not happen with Shreyas Iyer. He said - There should be mutual consent from both sides for retention. It cannot be one-sided. Only the franchise cannot do anything in this. The player has to consider many factors and agree.'

Mysore said, 'If some factors come into this agreement, like money or if someone wants to test his market value, then the decision is affected.' However, Mysore told that he has a good relationship with Shreyas, but he wanted to see his market value in the auction. Mysore was happy to support Shreyas' decision. He stressed the importance of players prioritizing their commercial value.
Mysore said, 'In this case, it happened that he felt that this is the best time to know about himself. We always support the players when it comes to going to the auction and testing their value. Apart from KKR, many other teams are looking for a captain in the auction this year. These include teams like Punjab Kings (PBKS), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In such a situation, the demand for Shreyas may increase in the mega auction.
