As the IPL 2025 season returns after a little break, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will play Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Tuesday, May 20.
CSK have already been knocked out of the playoff race and are currently at the bottom of the table with just three victories and six points from 12 games. This will be their first outing since the league resumed following a one-week break.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals played their first post-resumption match against Punjab Kings (PBKS), falling short by 10 runs in another narrow defeat. With only three victories and six points from 13 games, they are currently in ninth place in the standings, continuing their dismal season. As they gear up for their final game of the season, RR will be eager to end their campaign on a high.
Chennai too will look to finish strong, hoping to register back-to-back wins and wrap up their season with some positives. As anticipation builds, here are three batters who could be the standout performers in today’s encounter:

In an otherwise dreary season for CSK, Ayush Mhatre has been a shining example. Brought in as a replacement, the young right-hander has made a solid impact in the limited chances he’s had, amassing 163 runs in five games at an impressive strike rate of 181.11 and an average of 32.60. Ayush also has one 50 to his name.
Although he was dismissed for a duck in his last appearance against KKR before the break, Mhatre will be hungry to bounce back. RR's pace bowling hasn't been very effective in the powerplay, offering Mhatre a chance to capitalize early and give CSK a strong start at the top.

Another mid-season inclusion who has delivered for CSK is South African youngster Dewald Brevis. In just four outings, he has racked up 126 runs at an average of 31.50 with a blistering strike rate of 163.63. His last knock against KKR was a standout – a 52-run blitz off 25 deliveries, laced with four fours and four sixes.
Brevis’ aggressive style in the middle overs makes him a key figure in CSK’s batting lineup. As the team looks to string together some wins before bowing out of the tournament, Brevis will be crucial in building momentum in the middle order.

RR's poor campaign has been brightened by Yashasvi Jaiswal. With 523 runs in 13 games, he is not only RR’s top scorer but also one of the most consistent batters in IPL 2025. He has six 50s under his belt, averages 43.58, and hits at 158.
Jaiswal maintained his excellent form in their most recent match against PBKS, hitting 50 off just 25 balls, including nine boundaries and a six. Though he missed out the last time these two teams met, he will be keen to make a statement in RR’s final game of the season.
Both sides have had forgettable seasons, but individual brilliance can still shine through. As CSK and RR take the field, the performances of young talents like Ayush Mhatre and Dewald Brevis, alongside the experienced and in-form Yashasvi Jaiswal, could decide the outcome of this dead rubber. Fans can expect a fiercely contested battle as these players aim to finish on a high.
