South African cricketers selected for the World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia may miss the IPL playoffs as the country's cricket board has a clear stance that playing for the country should be above the league. However, CSA has reiterated that preparations for the WTC Final are its priority.
CSA National Team and High Performance Director Enoch Nkwe said that it is a personal decision whether they want to play the league or not. He said that we have made one thing clear that we are talking to BCCI and IPL, but the schedule for preparations for the WTC Final will remain the same. He said that the deadline for Test players is May 26. Our priority is the WTC Final in which there will be no change.
Kagiso Rabada (Gujarat Titans), Lungi Ngidi (RCB), Tristan Stubbs (Delhi Capitals), Aiden Markram (Lucknow Super Giants), Ryan Rickelton (Mumbai Indians), Corbin Bosch (Mumbai Indians), Marco Jansen (Punjab Kings) and Wiaan Mulder (Sunrisers Hyderabad) are in the squad for the WTC final which will be played in London on June 11. Currently, Gujarat Titans, RCB, Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants are in the race for the IPL playoffs.
All franchises are now allowed to add players temporarily if key overseas players do not return for the remainder of IPL 2025. However, franchises will not be able to retain these players for the next year.
The BCCI had postponed the IPL for a week last Friday due to military tensions between India and Pakistan, after which most of the foreign players returned. Now the board announced the new dates of the tournament on Monday and the remaining season will begin with a match between RCB and KKR from May 17. The final will be held on June 3.
