India won the toss and bowled first: Indian captain Shubman Gill won the toss and elected to bowl first. Gill explained that the dew factor would come into play later in the match, potentially benefiting the batsmen. He also mentioned that they have opted for six bowlers. Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, and Ravindra Jadeja will be the three spinners, while Harshit Rana, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna will handle the fast bowling duties. Arshdeep Singh has been left out of the playing XI. Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell also stated that he would have chosen to bowl first had he won the toss. Kristian Clarke is making his debut for the Kiwis.
This will be the first time the new Baroda Cricket Association (BCA) stadium in Kotambi will host an international match. While the ground has previously successfully hosted a women's ODI series between India and West Indies, this will be the first men's international match played here.
