The 27th league match of the T20 World Cup is scheduled to begin at 7:00 PM at the iconic R. Premadasa Stadium. According to the latest weather reports, rain could play spoilsport during the crucial hours of the match.
The good news is that there was no rainfall in Colombo during the morning hours. However, light drizzles are expected in the afternoon, followed by heavier showers in the evening.
Heavy Rain Expected Just Before Match Time
Weather department forecasts suggest that the heaviest rainfall is likely between 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM, just an hour before the scheduled start. During this period, rainfall could reach up to 5.1 mm, which may delay the toss or even the start of the game.
According to report that no rain had been recorded till the afternoon, though weather conditions may change after 2:00 PM.

What Could Happen During the Match?
Even if the rain stops around match time, light showers are expected to continue until 10:00 PM. Due to this:
- The match could be completely washed out
- Or officials may opt for a reduced-overs contest
The Sri Lanka Meteorological Department has also issued a warning about a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, increasing the chances of rain to nearly 70% during match hours.
Some Relief for Fans
There is still a silver lining for fans. Rain chances were much higher on Friday, but weather conditions have improved on Sunday. Earlier predictions showed more than a 40% chance of rain around 8:00 PM, which has now dropped significantly.
