The list of competitors who have earned automatic qualifying and rankings for the Olympics in Paris was made public by World Athletics on Tuesday.
Parul Chaudhary, the gold winner from the Asian Games, is the first track and field athlete from India to have qualified for two events at the Olympics in Paris.
To qualify for the Olympics, Parul broke the national record in the 3000m steeplechase at the 2023 global Athletics Championships. Her global ranking will also start her off in the women's 5000m race.
If the criteria is to award the slot to the next best athlete based on World Rankings, there is a potential that his compatriot Jeswin Aldrin would get his Olympic spot as M Sreeshankar, who qualified for the Games based on entry standards, will not participate due to a knee ailment.
