This was the Indian men's Kabaddi team's seventh win over Pakistan in the Asian Games. India will face the winner of Iran vs Chinese Taipei in the final on Saturday.
The Indian men's Kabaddi team recorded an impressive 61-14 win over Pakistan in the semi-finals of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, People's Republic of China on Friday.
The Indian men's team reached the Kabaddi final at the Asian Games for the eighth time. India missed out on a place in the final at Jakarta 2018 after losing to Iran in the semi-finals. Earlier, India had won all seven gold medals since the introduction of Kabaddi in 1990.
Against Pakistan in the Asian Games 2023 kabaddi semi-finals, India did not leave anything to chance.
India suffered a minor setback in the beginning and Pakistani defense got two tackle points in the beginning itself. Pakistan Kabaddi team's Mazhar Iqbal's two-point raid reduced India to three points. Nevertheless, the Indian Kabaddi team immediately rallied and all-out Pakistan.
After trailing 0-4, India soon took a 10-4 lead over Pakistan. Eight of those 10 points came through multi-point raids from Naveen Kumar.
Pawan Sehrawat, who was stopped by the Pakistani defense on the first raid, scored a super raid to increase the gap between the two sides. Aslam Inamdar also soon came into action.
From there it was one-way traffic to India. India made two more all outs and led Pakistan 30–5 at half time.
Sachin Tanwar and Akash Shinde came in place of Pawan Sehrawat and Naveen Kumar in the second half but this did not affect India's scoring rate.
At the beginning of the second half, Pakistan was able to improve its game by a notch. Nevertheless, India proved too strong and gave the two-time silver medalists two more all-outs to enter the final against Iran or Chinese Taipei on Saturday.
This was India's seventh win in as many matches against Pakistan in the Asian Games.
Earlier in their campaign, India had entered the semi-finals unbeaten with four wins from four matches in the group stage. Chinese Taipei finished second against India with three wins and one loss.
Chinese Taipei will face defending champions Iran in the second semi-final of Kabaddi at the Asian Games 2023.
