Indian squad announced for ODI series against South Africa, KL Rahul named captain: The Indian cricket team is currently playing a Test series against South Africa. Following this, the two teams will play a three-match ODI series. The Indian squad for this has been announced. KL Rahul has been given the captaincy. Young and experienced players have been given opportunities in the squad. Star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has returned after a long absence.

Shreyas Iyer has also not been included in the Indian squad. He is currently recovering from injury. Tilak Varma may be included in the playing eleven in his place. Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been rested from ODIs. Keeping next year's T20 World Cup in mind, Bumrah is currently focusing on T20 cricket. Meanwhile, Ruturaj Gaikwad, who has shown good form for the India A team, has been given a chance back in the team.
KL Rahul has assumed Gill's captaincy. Ruturaj Gaikwad has been included as his replacement as a batsman. Dhruv Jurel has been included as the second wicketkeeper.
The team has dropped Axar Patel, who was part of the team on the Australia tour. Ravindra Jadeja has returned in his place. Shreyas Iyer, who was injured in the third ODI on the Australia tour, is also not in the team. He will also need time to recover. Asia Cup hero Tilak Varma has been selected in his place.

The first ODI between India and South Africa will be played in Ranchi on December 30th. The second ODI will be played in Raipur on December 3rd. The final and third ODI of the series will be played in Visakhapatnam on December 6th.

India's regular ODI captain, Shubman Gill, is not playing in this series due to injury. He suffered neck spasms against South Africa. He subsequently retired hurt. He has captained the team in 12 ODIs, winning eight and losing four.
