Shreyas Iyer did not get a place in Team India for the Asia Cup to be played in UAE. The selection committee was heavily criticized for this. However, at the same time, many media reports claimed that BCCI is looking at Iyer as the next captain of the ODI team and wants to prepare him for this. Probably getting the captaincy of India-A is a step taken in this sequence.
Wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel has also got a place in this team and he has been given the responsibility of vice-captain. N Jagadeesan, who batted strongly in the Duleep Trophy, has also been included in the team. Nitish Kumar Reddy and Prasidh Krishna, who were part of Team India on the England tour, have also got a place in this team.
