Zimbabwe squad announced for T20I series against India: Zimbabwe Cricket has announced the team for the five-match T20 series against India starting July 6. All the matches of this series between the two teams will be played in Harare. Zimbabwe has announced a young team which will be led by experienced all-rounder Sikandar Raza. Interestingly, 25-year-old Belgium-born Anthum Naqvi has also been included in the Zimbabwe team, whose selection was dependent on citizenship status.
The Zimbabwe team failed to qualify for the recently concluded T20 World Cup and now it will try to perform well under the leadership of new coach Justin Simmons. This is a young team of Zimbabwe in which the average age of the players included is 27 years. 38-year-old Sikandar has played 86 matches for Zimbabwe and is the most experienced player in the team. He is followed by 29-year-old Jongwe Luke who has played 63 matches. At the same time, fast bowlers Richard Ngarava and Blessing Muzarabani have played 52 and 51 T20 international matches respectively.
Experienced players Craig Ervine and Sean Williams were not selected for the series against India, while Ryan Burl, Joylord Gumbi and Ansile Ndlovu also failed to make it. Before Zimbabwe, India also announced its team for this tour under the leadership of Shubman Gill. India's regular captain Rohit Sharma said goodbye to international T20 after the title win in the T20 World Cup, while experienced players like Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav were rested for this series.
