Gautam Gambhir constantly emphasizes that the role of multi-skilled players is important in modern cricket. He thinks that the batting line-up should be strong at least till number eight. This is the reason why the role of all-rounders is going to be very important in this tournament. The team also has to brainstorm about batting. Deciding the batting order has become very challenging with the return of Shubman Gill.
If Gill is made to open with Abhishek, it means that at the moment it seems difficult for Sanju Samson to make a place in the final eleven because he is not comfortable batting below the top three. On the other hand, if Sanju is made to open, then where is the place for Gill. Tilak Verma is consistently performing brilliantly at number three. Tilak has recently reached number two in the ICC T20 batsman rankings.
Captain Suryakumar Yadav is the natural choice at the fourth position. After this come the all-rounders of the team. Hardik Pandya is certain to play at number five, who can change the course of the match with both the ball and the bat. One of Shivam Dubey can get a chance at number six.
If Sanju does not play, then wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma is likely to get a place at number seven, whose finishing ability impressed a lot in the IPL. It is natural for Axar Patel to play at number eight and he is useful in both spin and batting.

Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh's place is confirmed in the fast bowling attack. The question is whether India will field an additional spinner or another pacer as the third bowler. The conditions are currently pointing towards some green and fresh pitches in Dubai. In such a situation, the contribution of fast bowlers can be big considering the bounce and carry.
Apart from Axar, one place is left in spin. The competition for this is between Varun Chakraborty and Kuldeep Yadav. Varun has performed brilliantly in recent T20 matches, while Kuldeep always remains a threat with his variety. Abhishek Sharma was also seen bowling long spells during the practice session on Monday, indicating that the team could field three spin options.
