IND vs ENG: Indian team's Test captain Shubman Gill scored 150 runs in the first innings of the second Test match being played against England in Birmingham. Gill had scored a century on the first day of the match and now he has maintained this momentum on the second day as well and completed 150 runs. Gill is the first Indian to score so many runs in England after 2002. The last time Rahul Dravid scored so many runs in England for India was by Rahul Dravid.

Rahul Dravid played an innings of 217 runs in the match played at the Oval in 2002. Since then, no Indian batsman has been able to score so many runs in England. Gill has achieved this feat after 23 years and has led India towards a big score. Gill and Ravindra Jadeja have already shared a 170+ run partnership for the sixth wicket, which has brought India's score close to 400 runs in the first innings.

Gill is the third Indian captain to have touched the 150-run mark in a Test innings before turning 26. He has equaled M Pataudi and Sachin Tendulkar in this matter. Pataudi had done this twice. At the same time, Gill is the second Indian captain to have played an innings of 150 runs in England. Before him, in 1990, Mohammad Azharuddin had scored 179 runs as captain in a match played at Old Trafford.

Gill has scored 140+ runs for the second time as captain and with this he has joined the list of legendary players like Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli and Vijay Hazare. Hazare had scored 140+ runs twice in a Test series during the 1951 tour of England. Gavaskar also did this twice during the 1978 tour of West Indies. Kohli has scored 140+ runs twice as captain in a Test series against three countries. Kohli did this in the Test series against Australia in 2014, England in 2016 and Sri Lanka in 2017. Now Gill has also joined this list.
