IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Two matches of the ongoing five-Test series between India and England (IND vs ENG 3rd Test) have been played. England won the Leeds Test while India won the Edgbaston Test. The series is tied at 1-1 and now the third match is to be played from July 10. This match will be played at the historic ground of Lord's.

Lord's is called the Mecca of cricket and it is not easy for any team to win here. In such a situation, before the third Test, let us know how is Team India's Test record at Lord's?

Team India's Test record at Lord's Stadium?

If we just go by the numbers, Lord's has never been an easy target for India. India's record here is testimony to their struggle.

  • Total Matches Played: 19
  • India Won: 3
  • India Lost: 12
  • Matches Drawn: 4

The numbers clearly show that India has often found the swing and seam conditions of this ground difficult, losing 12 of the 19 matches. But amid these 12 losses and 4 draws, those 3 wins are etched in golden letters, which are no less than a trophy.

Three historic wins: When India created history at Lord's

Every win at Lord's is an epic in itself. India's three victories tell the story of three different generations.

1. First Victory in 1986 (Captain: Kapil Dev)

This was the year when India tasted victory at Lord's for the first time. Under the captaincy of Kapil Dev, the team created history by defeating England by 5 wickets. The heroes of this match were Dilip Vengsarkar, who scored his third consecutive century at Lord's, and Chetan Sharma, who took 5 wickets in the first innings. This victory was a milestone for Indian cricket, which gave the team the belief that it can beat the best teams even on foreign soil.

2. Memorable Comeback in 2014 (Captain: MS Dhoni)

After the first victory, India had to wait for a long 28 years for the second victory. In 2014, a young team under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni ended this drought. This victory was special in many ways. Ajinkya Rahane's hundred in difficult conditions, Bhuvneshwar Kumar's all-round performance and most importantly, Ishant Sharma's fiery spell in the second innings (7 wickets for 74 runs). Dhoni's shrewd captaincy and Ishant's short-pitch bowling strategy demolished the England batting order and gave India a memorable 95-run win.

3. Thrilling win of 2021 (Captain: Virat Kohli)

This win is one of the most dramatic and thrilling victories in recent times. On the fifth day of the match, it looked like India would either lose the match or get a draw. But then an incredible 89-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Mohammed Shami (56*) and Jasprit Bumrah (34*) turned the tables. This partnership put India in a strong position and England got a target of 272 runs in 60 overs to win. Subsequently, the English team crumbled like a pack of cards in front of the lethal bowling of Mohammed Siraj, Bumrah and Ishant and India registered an incredible victory by 151 runs. This victory was a symbol of Virat Kohli's aggressive captaincy and the "Never Say Die" attitude of the team.
