India's head coach Gautam Gambhir has returned home to his family due to a family emergency and is unlikely to join the team before the pink ball test to be held in Adelaide from December 6. Gambhir will also not be in the two-day day-night practice match to be held in Canberra from November 30.
According to a report in the English newspaper Times of India, Gambhir is returning to India due to a personal emergency and will join the team before the second match to be played in Adelaide from December 6. The newspaper has quoted BCCI sources in its report, "Yes, Gambhir has left for India. He is returning to India due to a personal emergency. It seems that someone in his family is not well. He will join the team three days before the pink ball test."A board official said, 'He left for India on Tuesday morning. It was a personal emergency. He will return before the second Test in Adelaide.' The Indian team will leave for Canberra on November 27 where the entire team will attend a ceremony hosted by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in their honour.The two-day match is very important for the preparation of the second day-night Test. The pink Kookaburra ball will be used for this. The Prime Minister's XI will be captained by all-rounder Jack Edwards. The team has many young players along with experienced players like Scott Boland and Matthew Renshaw. The rules of the match will be decided by both the teams and it is expected that everyone will get a chance to bat and bowl as this match does not have official status.
Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill may return in the second Test. This has increased the difficulties of the team management. Team India may have to make changes in the playing-11 despite winning the match. Rohit Sharma was seen sitting with Gambhir in the Indian dressing room on the fourth day of the first match of the series against Australia. Rohit was seen practicing with the pink ball in the nets on Monday and he was seen working on his skills before the important match in Adelaide.
India defeated Australia by 295 runs in the first match of the five-match Test series. Team India had set a target of 534 runs for Australia at the Optus Stadium in Perth. In reply, the Kangaroo team was all out for 238 runs. After winning the toss and batting first, India scored 150 runs in the first innings. In reply, Australia's team was all out for 104 runs in the first innings. India had got a lead of 46 runs on the basis of the first innings. In the second innings, India declared at 487 runs for six wickets and gained a lead of 533 runs.
