The Indian women’s cricket team started the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 with great energy but now faces pressure after losing two games in a row against Australia and South Africa. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur’s team must now win their coming matches to stay in the race for the semifinals.
India’s Performance So Far
India began strongly with wins against Sri Lanka and Pakistan. However, defeats against Australia and South Africa have made things difficult.
Many fans and experts believe that playing with only five main bowlers has hurt the team’s balance. Still, there were moments of brilliance — like Richa Ghosh’s 94 runs and Chhani’s disciplined bowling. But to move ahead, the whole team needs to perform together.
India’s Remaining Matches
- 19 October: India vs England (Indore)
- 23 October: India vs New Zealand (Navi Mumbai)
- 26 October: India vs Bangladesh (Navi Mumbai)
India must win at least two, but ideally all three matches, to stay in the top four.

How India Women Can Qualify for the Semifinals
India needs to earn enough points from their remaining matches to be in the top four teams. Here are the ways they can qualify:
1. Win All Three Matches
If India wins all their remaining matches, they will finish with 10 points. This will guarantee a direct spot in the semifinals without worrying about other teams’ results.
2. Win Two Matches
Winning two out of three will give India 8 points. Qualification will then depend on their Net Run Rate (NRR) compared to teams like South Africa and New Zealand. If India’s NRR is better, they can still move to the semifinals.
3. Win One or No Matches
If India wins one or no matches, their chance to reach the semifinals will be very low. It will depend on other teams losing matches and other complicated results going their way.
What India Needs to Improve
To stay in the race, India must:
- Bat with more consistency and avoid early wickets.
- Keep bowling tight lines in the middle overs.
- Improve fielding and avoid simple mistakes.
- Depend on leaders like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandhana, and Deepti Sharma for stable performances.
The next three matches will decide India’s fate in the tournament. A strong comeback can still keep their World Cup dream alive.
