The Bangladesh cricket team has already withdrawn from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Now, if Pakistan decides to pull out as well, Uganda’s national cricket team could get the chance to participate. The tournament will be held from February 7, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

Pakistan’s Participation in Doubt

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has left the final decision about the team’s participation to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said that after a meeting with the Prime Minister, a final decision would be made by Friday or next Monday.

Naqvi added that if Pakistan withdraws, it will be the second team to pull out of a recent ICC tournament. Bangladesh withdrew earlier due to security concerns and their request to shift matches out of India being rejected by the ICC.

Why Uganda Could Get a Chance

According to ICC rules, if a qualified team withdraws, the highest-ranked team that failed to qualify gets a chance to replace them.

  • Scotland replaced Bangladesh, being 14th in ICC T20 rankings.
  • Uganda, ranked 21st in T20 rankings, failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup and could take Pakistan’s spot.

Uganda’s Performance in T20 World Cup 2024

Uganda made their T20 World Cup debut in 2024. They played 4 matches and won only 1:

  • Victory against PNG, successfully chasing 78 runs
  • Losses against Afghanistan, West Indies, and New Zealand

Although they didn’t qualify for 2026, Pakistan’s withdrawal could give Uganda another opportunity to play in the tournament.

Conclusion

If Pakistan withdraws from the T20 World Cup 2026, Uganda could benefit and get a chance to compete on the world stage. This could be a new and exciting story for cricket fans around the world.
