ICC Suspends USA Cricket Membership: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has dealt a major blow to the United States. The ICC has suspended USA Cricket's membership with immediate effect. This decision follows a year-long review and repeated violations of USA Cricket's rules.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has suspended the USA Cricket Board's membership with immediate effect. The board made this important decision during a virtual board meeting held on Tuesday, September 23. However, the USA Cricket team will still be able to participate in next year's T20 World Cup.

The USA Cricket team caused a major upset in the 2024 T20 World Cup, defeating Pakistan by 5 runs in a Super Over. Despite being significantly smaller than Pakistan, the USA team impressed everyone by winning the match.

Why did the ICC suspend the USA Cricket Board?

According to reports, the ICC took this action after repeatedly violating its obligations as an ICC member. However, the board has allowed the USA Cricket team to participate in its tournaments. Reports suggest that the ICC had been receiving complaints against the board for some time. This first came to light when the ICC issued a notice to the USA Cricket Board at its annual conference in Sri Lanka last year.

At a meeting held in Singapore this year, the ICC gave the board three months to establish a structure. This will not impact the cricket tournament at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

ESPN Cricinfo reported, quoting USA Cricket Board Chairman Venu Pisike, that the ICC has not yet contacted them regarding the suspension. It is believed that the USA Cricket team will participate in the 2028 Olympic Games as hosts.

Understand the entire matter

USA Cricket Board Chairman Venu Pisike opposed directives from both the ICC and the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee, who demanded a change in leadership. Following this, the board was served with a notice in July last year. The ICC gave the board one year to make improvements, but nothing happened after the deadline. Prior to this action, the ICC granted the USA Board three months' extension in a meeting held on July 19th, but the USA Board remained steadfast in its actions. The ICC has now taken significant action and suspended the USA Cricket Board.
